Zulu

Winner of the µTorrent App Developers Challenge

Zulu consists of two incredible apps allowing you to discover and download free music and your favorite TV shows. Both apps consist of an intuitive simple interface built inside µTorrent allowing browsing, searching, downloading and playback all in one place. Zulu apps require the latest µTorrent beta client named Project Griffin. Installing the apps is simple and only requires a few clicks. Once the app installs, they will be updated automatically.

Zulu Music - Discover and download free Music

Zulu Music

Zulu Music utlizes the Jamendo API allowing the ability to browse and search for free, legal and unlimited music published under Creative Commons licenses. It is extremely easy to find all the albums from an artist and download all of their work in a few clicks. All albums are available in both MP3 and OGG formats.

Zulu TV

Zulu TV combines the most recent television torrents uploaded to EZTV and beautiful artwork from theTVDB. It is easy to see all the recent episodes of the selected show, and the ability to download an episode in a variety of qualities, such as HDTV or 720p. A powerful search feature allows you to find shows that may not be recent but you are interested in, allowing you to download past episodes that were uploaded to EZTV. Zulu TV also has the ability to subscribe to the RSS Feed of a show, and have recent TV shows download automatically when they are uploaded to EZTV.

How can I get Zulu TV running in Utorrent right now? This might be a stupid question but I have downloaded the file and dragged and dropped the .btapp file into the apps window in Utorrent. Thank you for your help.

Love the idea of this. When I search and click on a show with Zulu TV, I get a banner with the shows image but just a black box below with no episodes to download. Ideas?

It appears that EZRSS is down, which is where all the data is parsed from. Hopefully it will be back up shortly and everything should work as usual.

Thanks for posting the update reg EZRSS. I just upgraded utorrent and thought the update broke ZuluTV!! :)

Note to self: Try new utorrent upgrade in VM before installing on physical host. No ZuluTV == BAD JOOJOO!

Is the EZRSS still down? After install all I get is a black screen and the more I look at it the more I feel it looking back into my soul…

I don’t get it. This app is supposed to find torrents for every type of music that you want, right? If I type Michael Jackson, I get totally different results. Why? I tried with others like Nightwish and stuff, but it doesn’t work for me.

Check out ezrss.it to verify that it is down. Once it comes back up, the app will just work. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The Music app only finds free music released by independent artists. Michael Jackson would not fall under that category.

Can we use http://rss.bt-chat.com/?group=3 instead of EZRSS temporarily there is no indication from the EZRSS team on if/when there will be a fix (I am sure they are working hard on it, no offense) ?

How do i install? do i just double click it? I tried doing that and it gave me an error something about debugger with a black screen, tried deleting it and now the app directory says something about an URL for the apps and “mismatch url?” or something like that.

Sucks that ezrss.it is not up since i’ve found this app. havent seen it work yet. might want to write some fallback code to point to rss.bt-chat.com like post #12 suggests.

Feature request: When subscribing to a show in ZuluTV, the feed gets added to utorrent as a generic name.

Request to automatically set the “Custom Alias” field in the feed to be the show name.

Is it possible to ignore the 720p versions so that it only goes for the HDTV ones instead? I cant seem to find any options to do that..

Right now, I just get whatever EZRSS has. If the episode has two different versions, you can chose to download the other version by clicking on the name of the episode, and then the description slides down. On the right side are all the torrents for that episode. Clicking on the one not in blue will down load that version. I am currently trying to figure out a better way to handle multiple formats for an episode, but the basic functionality is there. Let me know if you have any other questions.

After poking around in the RSS Downloader options I found some settings there that allow you to choose formats for auto downloading after you set up the feed, although it seems to double them up once you exit it.
Seems to work ok once set up for previously posted stuff.. I’ll wait and see when the next one of my feeds gets a new episode if it downloads the correct format.

worked perfectly on Fringe, and only downloaded the HDTV version.
    Good stuff!

I’m working on having a box come up with settings for downloads when you click the subscribe button. Unfortunately it appears I can’t modify a lot of the feed settings, but choosing the quality is a good idea.

Using ezrss’s advanced options you can specify quality (ie &quality=HDTV) or season (&season=$n). Seems to me that these are the only settings you would need on a TV RSS feed

Great work on the app by the way! Zulu TV is a godsend.

As with all the commenters, I would like to see a quality chooser for subscribing TV shows! This is the only thing missing from this Zulu TV app.

Another suggestion, it may seem trivial, but you could add the ability to fetch shows’ synopsis (maybe you could take an inspiration from Ember Media Manager scraping technique).

Another thing, please add a notification of some sort (maybe change the “Subscribe” text under the poster to “Subscribed!” or “Click to unsubscribe”, if you can add that feature) for subscribed shows.

Kudos, Steve! Your dad will love you now.

I just thought of another great suggestion:

    1. Add “Top 10 TV Shows” list, probably from an outside source like TV.com, on the app page on uTorrent. So just users could try a new show he/she not familiar with.
    2. Add “Most subscribed shows” list so that the user knows what shows other people are torrenting the most.

With these two features, Zulu TV will be the one-stop “convinience store” for TV freaks.

BTW .. in case you dint know already. This is the BEST APP EVER!!! :) Thanks so much Steve!

uTorrent uses Internet Explorer to render the app. You probably have IE6 on the XP machine. IE6 sucks to develop for, so I didn’t even try. Simply updating to a newer version of Internet Explorer will make it work, and be better for your computer. Hope that helps

Download the *.btapp file from this site, double-click to install. Make sure uTorrent is already installed in your PC.

So simple, made you look dumb for asking.

    Hi

there are seems to be a couple of people having problems installing the app, and I was one of them. And only one useless and insulting replay…

The cause of this problems is that when downloading .btapp file, what ends up being saved is a .zip file. Double licking that acheves nothing.

The SOLUTION is that people having this problem need to rename the .zip file to a .btapp file and then double click.

    Hope this helps out

What you put out comes around hey? All credit to #37 ‘Swiss’ for not being so simple as to let an unconscious ego run away with a “me oriented” answer. I can see your thought was not designed to make people look dumb. A not so obvious download glitch solved. Swiss, your answer helped me out, much appreciated. Thanks for your time to be conscious of us and a sane approach.

    Anon:

Zulu TV is currently not working on μTorrent 2.2.1 (build 25130). Only a black screen shows up,

It looks like EZRSS is down which would have this effect. There shouldn’t be anything inherent in the updated version that would cause this. when http://www.ezrss.it comes back up, everything should work again.
